Tampa City Council rejects controversial condo project on Bayshore: Tampa City Council has voted down a proposed high-rise condo development on Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa. The development was overwhelmingly blocked in a 5-2 vote. Residents collected over 1,000 petition signatures to block the development. Grand Cathedral Cigars hosting Prohibition Week starting Feb. 12 after Tampa City Council temporarily suspends liquor license: Grand Cathedral Cigars in Tampa Heights located at 2201 N Florida Ave. is hosting a special Prohibition Week from Feb. 12 to Feb. 18 after having their liquor license temporarily suspended by Tampa City Council over noise complaints. The restaurant will offer complimentary burgers to everyone from Wednesday to Sunday during limited time windows. There will be live music from Thursday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mocktails will be available. (instagram.com, wfla.com)
Kanagroo caught at apartment complex in Tampa after 911 call: Police in Tampa captured a kangaroo that was roaming in an apartment complex near Fowler Avenue and 56th Street in North Tampa on Thursday after a 911 call from a concerned resident. The kangaroo escaped from the house of its owner, according to authorities. (thedailybeast.com)
Former Manatee County official charged with 3 felonies after outcry from residents: Former Manatee County Administrator Scott Hopes is facing three criminal felony charges, according to authorities. Hopes is accused of notary fraud, grand theft in the third degree and fraudulent use of public records. Bail was set at $7,500 after Hopes surrendered to authorities on Thursday. (wtsp.com)
