City of Tampa taxpayers to pay legal fees of former Chairman Orlando Gudes: The legal fees of former City Council member Orlando Gudes will be paid for by City of Tampa taxpayers after city council members voted to help Gudes with his legal fees, according to a report by the Tampa Bay Times. Initially the city refused to help Gudes in the legal battle. Gudes was previously accused of harassment in the workplace by a former city employee. (tampabay.com)
Mediterranean concept Cava opens up 6th Tampa Bay location: Cava, a Mediterranean restaurant concept, has opened a new location in Seminole. The new location is located in Seminole City Center at 11165 Park Blvd. It is the sixth location in Tampa Bay for Cava. (cltampa.com)
Marijuana and abortion rights to appear on Florida election ballots this November: The Florida Supreme Court will allow ballot measures for recreational marijuana and abortion rights to appear on election ballots this November. Democrats declared the ruling a win after Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody attempted to prevent the amendments from appearing. Both measures require at least 60 percent support from voters to pass. (wfla.com)
Tampa leaders announce new rules for e-scooter drivers: Tampa leaders have announced new rules for e-scooters after several were found below water. Starting Apr. 1, 2024, riders must park their shared e-vehicles in city-approved docking stations only or will be charged an “out-of-hub fee.” Fees will be up to $5. (thatssotampa.com, tampa.gov)
Hotel Haya Swim Club happening until Saturday, Aug. 31: Hotel Haya located at 1412 East 7th Ave. in Ybor City launched its Haya Swim Club on Saturday. Haya Swim Club’s season will take place every Saturday with special themed events throughout the season through Saturday, Aug. 31. ResortPass tickets will be available for purchase at $40 for special events and $25 for normal Saturday Swim Club. (carloseats.com)
