Gasparilla Pirate Pup Parade coming Jan. 14 to Water Street Tampa: January means its Gaspy season! The Gasparilla Pirate Pup Parade is coming to Water Street Tampa on Sunday, Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the first year for this parade for dog lovers and owners. Of course, there will be a Pirate Pup Costume Contest, face painting, caricatures and more for everyone to enjoy. Firefighters extinguish heavy fire in Riverview on Tuesday afternoon: Hillsborough County Fire Rescue contained a fire in Riverview on Tuesday at 8012 78th St. Multiple calls came into their emergency dispatch center at 2:18 p.m. from individuals reporting a fire a repair and scrapyard there. Fire officials reported heavy flames and smoke billowing from several semi-trailers in the business's yard. There were no injuries reported in the incident. The cause was accidental and due to sparks from metalwork, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. (facebook.com)
Sarasota leaders tackle vacation rentals with new restrictions, residents exacerbated: Vacation rental laws could be changing in Sarasota after complaints from residents in the area including noise disturbances, trash, and parties. City officials are working to pass legislation that will limit vacation rentals citywide, expanding a law on barrier islands. There are at least 700 vacation rentals in the city and a lack of code enforcement personnel to handle the volume of rentals approved in the area. (wfla.com)
Clearwater Main Library finally re-opens after flood damage: The Clearwater Main Library finally re-opened on Tuesday after closing due to a flood last September. The damage cost the city and taxpayers $5 million. Insurance on the library helped to cover the cost of the repairs. At least 16,000 books were damaged in the flood. (wtsp.com)
Tiny home selling for nearly $1,400 as rent soars: Escape Homes in near Tampa is renting a 213 sq. ft. home for $1,395 a month amid an affordable housing crisis plaguing the Sunshine State. Rentals are claimed fairly quickly, according to company CEO Dan Dobrowolski. (businessinsider.com)
