Times report highlights struggles impacting single home buyers: A Tampa Bay Times report found that 27,000 homes in Tampa Bay are owned by investors amid an affordable housing crisis. These properties often compete against residents trying to buy homes and make cash offers on homes. University of South Florida Professor Lei Wedge said competition from companies have raised prices and lowered housing supply in the area, although they are not necessarily responsible for raising prices. TECO pushes to raise energy rates for residents: Tampa Electric Co. (TECO) is planning to raise electric rates over the next 3 years, if state regulators approve. The push comes after relief was just given over natural gas prices. TECO cites inflation and a rising population as factors. Duke Energy is also planning to raise rates in 2025. The push comes as Florida residents face sky-rocketing property insurance costs and the highest inflation in the United States of America. (cltampa.com, foodandwaterwatch.org)
Man shot and killed at Plant City lounge overnight: An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed at a Plant City lounge on Saturday morning. The incident happened at the Twilight Zone Lounge at 4010 State Rd 60 in Plant City. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call at 3:54 a.m. that a man was shot. He later died at a local hospital. Anyone with information into the incident is asked to contact authorities. (abcactionnews.com)
